Abstract

The Staff Symposium on Service-Learning is one of the initiatives of the UGC-funded project Cross-institutional Capacity Building for Service-Learning in Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions (CoP-SLHE). We envisage the event would be an opportunity to bring together experts to present the results and findings from their action research projects on a series of diverse service-learning courses in various fields. The symposium will consist of a keynote session in the morning and two parallel sessions in the afternoon. Through the symposium, we hope to cultivate a sharing and collaborative culture among colleagues, especially those who are engaging in Service-Learning, so that we could work together to promote quality teaching and learning in Service-Learning.

Dr. Carol Ma from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, who is the former Associate Director of the Office of Service-Learning at Lingnan University, will be delivering a keynote speech on ‘Current and Future Trend of Service-Learning Development in the World’ in the symposium.

Professor Daniel Shek, the Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme) and the Li & Fung Professor in Service Leadership Education of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, has also been invited to the symposium. He will give a talk on ‘Service Learning in Hong Kong: Questions and Reflections.’
