It’s the end of the semester. What are your plans for the summer break? We hope you have enjoyed some terrific and rewarding learning experience this year. Even though we faced a new wave of COVID again during the second semester and most of the service-learning activities have been turned online, our students worked hard and their service ideas were beyond our imagination. Here is a recap of some of our service-learning courses and their deliverables.

ENGL2025 The Art of Storytelling: Virtual tour at Africa Center Hong Kong
CISL has lined up with Dr Emily Chow-Quesada, Dr Emilie Tran, Dr Emily Zong, and interdisciplinary artist Ms Michelle Fung to form a panel to discuss various topics in relation to climate change. It was part of an international initiative called Worldwide Teach-in. We focused on climate issues across different disciplines, including art, government policy, literature, and the humanities. Hopefully there are more global initiatives to come in the near future.
A translation project on community interpreting led by Dr Janice Pan - Associate Professor from the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies - in collaboration with her students, the Department of Computer Science and CISL was awarded 1st runner-up in the “BU Ideas Galore! ArtTech x Innovation” competition organised by the Knowledge Transfer Office. The project aims to develop a mobile app for simultaneous interpretation in hope of enhancing communication and conversation among ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.
CISL's Latest Publication: Perchance
CISL is proud to present to you Perchance, an anthology of HKBU stories on service-learning and social innovation. The anthology covers stories from our community partners, teachers, and students/alumni, who have all made significant contributions to the work of CISL since our establishment.
