Partner with HKBU Service-Learning

Here comes our first newsletter for community partners! We are the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning (CISL) from Hong Kong Baptist University. This newsletter shares the community projects that we are working on and introduces partnership opportunities where students and instructors of HKBU could contribute their experience and skills in solving a social issue with your organisation.

Community Campaign: “Beat the virus, BU & I”

The higher education has been doing a lot in combating the coronavirus, and HKBU is no exception. We help the public fight against the epidemic with resources such as surgical masks and sanitisers, healthcare tips, emotional support, etc. Students have created bleach posters for the elderly and encouraging songs for the community, and they are also working on a few exciting initiatives: a territory-wide creative competition for secondary schools, motivational WhatsApp stickers and a stay-home exercise campaign. Hand in hand together, HKBU and our community partners constantly create synergy effects.

Partnership Opportunities

HKBU is well known for its caring, creative and global culture. We have eight Faculties / Schools and offer over 100 undergraduate/postgraduate programmes.

Schools
Our students can be experienced and caring buddies for school teens, sharing their academic knowledge and school life with them like friends. For example, students from our Department of Biology did some interactive experiments together with the Lung Cheung Government Secondary School students in their school lab. The secondary school students reflected that the activity sparked off their interest not only in exploring science but university life. <Know more>

Non-Governmental Organisations
Great work needs to be noticed and recognised but it is always difficult to stand out in this era of information explosion. Collaborating with our students may help NGOs to come up with some creative ideas. Last year, HKBU journalism students helped various NGOs turn dull raw data into visually-stimulating materials that could capture more attention from the public to raise awareness of social issues. <Know More>

Social Enterprises
Our course instructors discussed potential projects and came up with some initial ideas for collaborations with Okapi studio, an innovative enterprise set up by two HKBU alumni to enhance social inclusion. There must be a lot of unexpected opportunities when young entrepreneurs meet academics! <Know more>
